Prepare for the Season
Where do I buy skates? There are a few options for figure skates.
The 2 most common stores that our club members use are Pro Skate in Edmonton (16972 - 111 Avenue) and United Sport & Cycle in Edmonton (7620 Gateway Blvd NW). Heading south? Another great store, based out of Calgary, is Professional Skate Service (3515 - 18th St SW). All of these stores will check your skaters foot to see what brand of skate will fit them best. They then heat mold the skate, check blade alignment and sharpen them for you. All of these stores offer used skates (if you ask) and often they end up being cheaper than you'd pay at a box store. These stores also will sell skating dresses, guards and tights too. We recommend you contact the store(s) in advance to book an appointment or to see if certain services/selections are available. Who needs helmets? All skaters must wear CSA approved helmets until they have been assessed and passed their CanSkate level 5. Please see Skate Canada's helmet use guide for more information:

What should a skater wear to practice? On ice skating attire should allow the skater to use their full range of motion, without restriction, and keep them warm. Layers are key and allow the skater to adjust their clothing if too hot or cold.
DO NOT wear items that could be a tripping hazard, drag on the ice or easily snagged. Yoga/running attire, sweats, leg warmers, skating dress/pants, sweater/hoodie, and mitts/gloves are all appropriate for the ice. Younger children, who move slowly, can wear snow pants/snowsuit to stay warm. Long hair should be pulled away and held out of the skaters face. Is there skating if school is cancelled?YES. Our coaches still come to the rink despite school closures, however they do not expect skaters to attend when road conditions or temperatures are hazardous.
